Is Prison Deterrence

Confinement of the criminals in prison is one of the widely-used forms of deterrence in the entire world. However, the effectiveness and the efficiency of the method various depending with the crimes committed. Therefore in my opinion, I feel that prison cannot be used as deterrence to criminals like Jeffrey Dahmer who was a well-known sex offender and serial killer. Our prisons are designed in a way that offender share rooms, cubes and other personal things. For offenders like Jeffrey Dahmer, letting him to be close to other people is just allowing him to commit more crimes. He was found guilty of murder, rape, and cannibal. The chances that such person would commit similar crimes while in the prison are very high. Therefore, to prevent more crimes, such criminals should be deterred using other means
